Clare Ashton is a goddamn genius ❤️
What was the book about?
Jessica Lambert is over her life of fame and all the expectations in it. When she is rescued by the most beautiful woman she has ever seen, she starts to see what could be instead of what is. She can’t stop feeling an emotional connection to the beautiful hero.
Anna is not a hero, but when she sees a frightened woman on the tube, she can’t stand around and do nothing. Letting this woman into her home, let alone her carefully secluded life is not something she would typically do, but she can’t help but open her world up to this woman who has captured her heart.
But Jessica’s life is waiting for her outside Anna’s flat, and she can’t ignore it forever. And Anna can’t stop herself from wanting what she can’t have. Can life get any more complicated?
Age Gap, Movie Star, class disparity
What an excellent book. I was so intensely glued to the page from the moment I began reading. Clare Ashton has once again written an exceptional book with a plot that is entirely original. The tension between the characters was bloody delicious and kept me on my toes the whole time.
I haven’t laughed this much at a book in ages! Jess falling over her mouth in the first few chapters was the best. She just says exactly what she’s thinking and it was such an endearing quality. I have seen a lot of myself in Jess’s quieter personality, and it made me intrigued by her more than any character I have ever read.
I completely fell for Anna. She was without a doubt, my favourite character in the book, and I was crushing on her so very hard by the end. Major swoon! Age gap romances… what can I say!
What I loved best about this story is that it shows another side to the fame and fortune trope. That movie stars might love acting, but they don’t get a personal life.
The secondary characters in this book were part of some of my favourite scenes, especially Penny, whom I adored!!! I think Penny needs her own romance as I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to her character.
I don’t think I’ve read chemistry that is more prevalent than in this book. The attraction and sexual chemistry were there in spades, and you could feel it emanating from the page when Anna and Jess were in the same room. In regards to emotional chemistry, that was also ubiquitous and Clare Ashton wrote it so well, I could almost feel it.
Strap yourselves in book lovers because this book is going to take you on the ride of your life. I can’t wait to reread it very soon… maybe tonight!
