Don’t Cry for Me (Midnight in Manhattan #1) by Rachel Lacey

Heartache and loss soothed by new-born kittens and feelings that neither woman can ignore.

What was the book about?
Eve Marlow is everything you’d expect from a woman who runs her own business and is the star of the reality show “Do Over’s”, no nonsense, straight to the point and aloof. Unfortunately for her the star of the latest renovation story has been arrested, so Eve and her team have to find another business to renovate and quickly. On top of this Eve has rescued a bundle of new-born kittens from a dumpster and it adds a whole new layer to her life. Josie Swanson is trying to keep the bar, which was her father’s dream, running and profitable. However, Josie’s real passion is rescuing kittens and she makes Youtube videos to help others care for them. Eve, in her desperation to try and find someone to look after the kittens, she happens on one of Josie’s videos. Following a phone call, neither woman is prepared for how a bundle of kittens could change their lives.

Book Strengths
Reading this novel gave me a whole range of feelings. At one point I laughed outloud at Eve’s reaction the kittens, I was teared up when the detail of their pasts became clear and the heat these two characters produced was awesome. Eve and Josie came across as real people and not a cardboard cutout for a novel.

Character Chemistry
Off the charts! The reactions between Josie and Eve were wonderful to read. Josie’s determination to get Eve to see things her way. Eve’s consternation when she was feeding the kittens and trying not to become attached. The sex…well let’s just say it’s HOT.
