A Breathless Place is the best book Harper Bliss has written since In the Distance There Is Light.
What was the book about?
Izzy Adler is planning her death. She will commit suicide in 183 days, and having a plan is making her life easy to live in her remaining days. She doesn’t see the point of living when her sole purpose was to sing, and she is no longer able to do that.
Writing her biography will be her final gift to the world. When her biographer is in a freak accident, renowned journalist Leila Zadeh, takes on the remainder of the project.
What both women do not expect is the sexual chemistry between them which is ultimately leading to them falling for each other.
But Izzy must stick to her plan… Or is Leila her new reason for living?
Celebrity, Mental Health, Epic romance, Bring the tissues.
This book comes with a trigger warning for anyone not comfortable reading about suicide.
This book floored me. I don’t think I have cried so much since the last time Harper Bliss plucked my emotional strings. A Breathless Place is so powerful from the moment you read the first sentence right until I was finished.
Izzy has been to hell, and you feel her pain and suffering through her suicidal thoughts throughout the book. There were more than a few moments I had to take a massive breath and then start the new chapter.
When I first read the synopsis for this book, I was worried that the content would be overly dark and depressing, but in fact, it’s not. In fact, reading this book is uplifting because from chapter one the reader sees all the reasons that Izzy must live and when Leila enters the story, the reader is all caught up in the most significant reason for which Izzy must live. Love.
Leila was my favourite character, and I had a little crush on her. Her forwardness and devil may care attitude was addictive, and I found myself entirely drawn to her personality.
Well, let’s just say the sexy, flirty banter was a prelude to Leila and Izzy setting the sheets alight. And the fact you know Izzy is planning to end her life just intensifies the sexual and emotional chemistry at the moment.

This is the book Harper Bliss was born to write. Her writing always shines when she digs deep and thinks outside the norm in her writing. This is such a beautiful story of searching for a reason to live and finding it when you least expect it.
