A Work in Progress by L.T. Smith

Author Synopsis

Writer Brynn Morgan has been in love with her best friend and muse, Gillian Parker forever. She’s the only one who can fill the emptiness in Brynn’s life, ease the ache in her chest, and get her writing juices flowing again. The problem is Gillian is straight. And she’s more focused on enlisting Brynn to see whether her doctor fiancé is a cheat. No matter what Brynn turns up, what should she tell Gillian?

This UK rom-com, part of the Window Shopping Collection, proves that the path to true love has more than a few bumps in it.

My Review

A work in Progress is a sweet and funny novell that left me with that warm and fuzzy feeling as I read the last page.
This is the first book I’ve read by L.T. Smith and I found that I really enjoyed her witty and sarcastic humour. The book is well written and I look forward to reading more of her work.
The story is told in first person and is narrated by Brynn. She is both likeable and relatable, which is a great combination.

Brynn believes she is in love with her best friend Gillian, who is not only straight, but is also engaged to the man she loves. Gillian is convinced her fiancée is cheating on her and begs Brynn to help her find out the truth. Brynn reluctantly agrees to help, but ends up discovering some things about herself after meeting a new woman (Gina).

While I wish this story had been longer, I still really enjoyed it. I would have loved to see the characters relationships with each other develop further. I would also have liked to learn more about Gina.

Don’t Forget by AJ Adaire

Wow!! I loved this book, it’s just a fantastic story that I highly recommend.

Author Synopsis

In 1986, Jamie Parker falls in love. What could be bad about that? Nothing except that the object of her affection is Val DiLeona, friend and fellow administrator in the same school district. If Jamie has misinterpreted that Val has similar feelings, confessing her affection could result in the end of their friendship. Then there is the little matter of the consequences at work. Outing herself as a lesbian could result in her losing her job.
Nearly thirty years later, in 2016, Jamie meets ambulance driver, Kelly, in a hospital waiting room. Upon learning how long Jamie and her partner have been together, Kelly asks Jamie to tell her their story. As Jamie begins, neither woman can imagine the impact their casual conversation will have on their lives, and the lives of those they love.

Review

The story starts by introducing us to Val and Jamie, an older couple who are still happy and very much in love after being together for 30 years. When Val has a fall and is taken to the hospital, Jamie is scared. Jamie meets Kelly a young paramedic who sits with her at the hospital. Jamie and Val met at a time where they needed to hide their sexuality. Where they had to be careful about who they could trust.

The story switches back and forth between the past and present. Through this we learn about Jamie, Val and the story of how they met and got together. It’s a sweet and romantic friends to lovers story, with lots of depth and character development.

I finished this book in one reading as it was so well written and I just couldn’t put it down. While it was slower than a lot of today’s contemporary romances, it worked really well for this story.

This is honestly just a really wonderful love story, that is beautifully told.

My Review

It is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. The story was very well written, and has a really strong main character. It also has a fantastic mix of supporting characters who you can’t help but like. It is one of those books that draws you in and you feel like you are a part of the story

It is a very inspiring story about a young woman who has to face a mountain of challenges. The book makes you go though a mix of emotions from horror and anger, to hope and elation. I felt like I was on this journey with Belinda (the main character) and I was rooting for her every step of the way.

I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars, as it definitely deserves it. I honestly cannot say enough good things about the book

I am disabled and am stuck in bed 95% of the time. About 5yrs ago I ended up in hospital as I couldn’t move my body, and it took me over 18 months to be able sit up unsupported, stand and eventually to walk again with my Zimmer frame. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to not only deal with that, but to also lose my voice.

I think the author did an amazing job with this character… explaining the frustrations, feelings of not being worthy, of being a burden to your family etc. All this on top of losing years of your life and having life as you know it change so completely.

This is an amazing story and I highly recommend it. 5 Stars
